On June 5, 2017, a disgruntled ex-employee went to an Orlando, Florida business and killed 5 workers including his former boss before killing himself. He was fired 2 months earlier in April. In 2014, police were called to the same business for a workplace violence incident involving the same man responsible for the killings; however, no charges were filed at that time. If the company had fired this individual back in 2014, maybe this incident would not have occurred. But then again….maybe this would have just caused him to carry out his mass shooting 3 years earlier. What would have been best for the owner and workers at this business is for them to have never worked with this individual. I don’t know whether or not any pre-employment screening was conducted on this killer. The point is that a pre-employment screening can reveal if a potential candidate for employment has a history of violence. This information allows businesses to make better hiring decisions which could prevent something like this from happening.
